Un-wined

Well, my signs had lots of compliments during the Clothes Swap on Thursday.  And I did take home some new additions to my wardrobe. Along with my co-workers, I was one happy lady.

 

This weekend, I went down state to watch a concert. When I travel, I like to visit at least one local craft store. We tried to look for one but the ones listed on the internet are already closed. Even though I'm not surprised, it's still sad. The area already has one Michaels, one Joanns and they are building their third Hobby Lobby. But then, I was able to visit Carnegie Center for the Arts. They were featuring art work of students from a nearby school. Seeing different forms of art made by K to 12 graders sure was inspiring.

 

Let me end this blog post with something crafty. The chair you see is made from that part of a wine bottle that secures the cork. Isn't it cool? My friend's brother made that in just a few minutes.

Quick Signs

A couple of weeks ago, a co-worker and I made invitations for a Clothes Swap.  Well, that's taking place this week, and I was tasked to make some signs.  So I did last night.  

My first thought was to use the Cricut, but I opted for a quicker and easier way.  I went through my alpha punch-outs stash, and saw the Prismatic Alpha Punch-Outs by ColorBok.  I tried to search on the internet, but I couldn't find it anymore.  I guess these punch-outs are obsolete!  I do remember buying them from Walmart when their scrapbook section was cool.  I sure am glad I held on to them, but it's time for me to use them.

Just looking at the photos, I just love the effects the alphas get from the light.

I attached stands at the back of each sign so they can be placed on tables. 

I also attached eyelets on the top corners for hanging.  Geez, I can't even remember the last time I used eyelets on a project.

Asian Maya

The Maya bird used to be the national bird of the Philippines.  There was no day that I didn't see a Maya flying around, even in the city.  Then in 1995, they changed it to the Philippine Eagle, which is considered endangered species.  

Why am I telling you this?  Because I got to play with Maya Road goodies again today.  If you see the connection, I guess we have the same wave length, if that even makes sense.  Oh well, it's a Saturday!

So I dug through my box of Maya Road stuff, and decided to play with the Japanese Fans Stamp Strip and the Mixed Scallop Mini Triangle Banner Chipboard Set.  

I inked the chipboard pieces first, then stamped and embossed the top layer.

embellishments:  Maya Road chipboard, DCWV alpha stickers, Japanese twist tie & leaf sticker, wood beads, ribbon

misc.:  Inkadinkado embossing powder

adhesive:  Scotch, mounting tape

 

I will use these banners for a Japan-themed scrapbook page one of these days.

Post Patty

I promised a friend of mine that I will make a St. Patrick's scrapbook page of her baby girl.  I know it's almost a month after the fact, but better late than never.  It's just that when it comes to scrapbooking, the planning stage always take time.  I wish I can do what a lot of scrapbook personalities on TV or craft channels on the internet.  When I watch their videos, putting together a scrapbook page seems so easy.  That's not the case for me, considering I started out as a scrapbooker.  Maybe I just think too much.

But before I show you my latest scrapbook page in forever, I'd like to share with you my latest find:

I blogged about the Stamping Gear in ovals and circles last year (Geared Up), and I used it in one of my cards for Oozak in September.  When I saw the ones in square and rectangle at Joann's, I got really excited.

And that new tool was my inspiration to make this scrapbook page.  I won't be able to stamp around a 12 x 12 cardstock like that without the Stamping Gear.  And I'm glad.

Maya-Ness

When I received an email about the Maya Road Spring Time Warehouse Kit Sale, I thought of giving it a shot.  I was so busy making wedding invitations for my friend that I have forgotten to just play and have fun in my planet.  So I ordered a box of the Maya Road goodies, not knowing what to expect inside.

I received my box three days later, and I have to say I was very pleased with the contents.  And to challenge myself, I decided to make something out of my Maya goodies.  And because I had a 3-day weekend, I made sure to finish a project.

I ended up using the Sakura Accordion Album then topped it with an embellished Jumbo Bottle Cap.

You can see here that I adhered the Organza Mum Trim around the bottle cap.  Then I put red rhinestones in the center of each flower. 

I adorned the bottle cap with Maya Road embellishments as well - Vintage Wood Rabits Girl, Kraft Decorative Journaling Tags, and Supernova Chipboard Set.  I just used leftover cardstock for my base.

As for the chipboard album, I painted both sides with acrylic paint, then stamped the center with a contrasting color flower. 

 

Each flower has the letters of my niece's nickname.  You can hang this on the wall as you can see below, but you can still fold each page and make it a mini album.  You can put other elements on the other side of each flower, like photos and journaling.

I really enjoyed playing with my Maya Road goodies.  I think I'll be making some more this week.
