National Craft Month (Day 29)

Hi dear reader!  I was looking for something to make today so I dug through my kits stash.  It had to be an easy project so I picked a flower clip kit by Krazy Kreations.  You're supposed to make 3 jumbo clips, but I just made one:

For some pizzaz, I sprayed the flowers with Shimmer Spritz before assembling.  I also added a button tied with a string on the large brad.

Before I forget, Creative Vision will start conducting weekly challenges this coming Saturday in the CV Blog.  Hope you can join us for some fun.  Be a follower also so you won't miss out on more craft events.
Two more days and we will draw the winners for our National Craft Month blog candies...  can't wait!  Click here if you're interested as there is still time to join in the fun.

Hello everyone!  Here's another origami project for you which is named "Curler Unit Balls" by designer Herman Van Goubergen:

This ball is composed of twelve square pieces of paper.  It looks complicated to make, but not really.

Three more days and we will draw the winners of our National Craft Month Blog Candies.  Again, we would like to thank you for celebrating this fun month with us.  Click here to upload and share your projects this month.

National Craft Month (Day 27)

Happy Sunday everyone!  My project for today is a traditional scrapbook page about my niece from the Philippines.  She just graduated from kindergarten this month, and I just wish I was there to see her.  Making a scrapbook page about this occasion is as close as I can get.  I miss her a lot.

Materials used:

cardstock/dp:  The Paper Co., ColorBok
tools:  Martha Stewart edge punch, Cricut Expressions (Makin' the Grade, Lacy Labels), corner punch (Stampin' Up, EK Success), Spellbinders, Big Shot
ink:  Stampin' Up
embellishments:  brads, star sequins, rhinestones, alpha beads
adhesive:  Scotch, Zots

It's nice to do some scrapbook as I haven't for quite a while.  I hope my niece likes it.

Next week, Claire and I will draw the winners for our National Craft Month Blog Candies.  But there are still a few days left to upload your projects.  Click here.

National Craft Month (Day 26)

Hello everyone!  I have a really good (and productive) reason for my late posting today.  I promised myself that I won't log on to the internet until I have totally cleaned the house.  So that's what I did all day, cleaning and washing and wiping and all sorts of wifely chores.  I proved to myself that I can really do a lot of other things when my mind is off the computer, and my planet as well.  I'm pretty proud of myself.

So after dinner, I crocheted a case/bag for my cellphone.  I'm the type who is attached to my cellphone, therefore it's always with me.  Even back in the Philippines, I like to carry my cellphone on a little pouch or bag that I hang over my shoulder.  I already have a bunch of them in fact - some are beaded, some made of cloth and even leather.  And yes, this is not my first crocheted cellphone bag.

I can't believe we only have 5 days left for National Craft Month.  I sure am having fun making projects and seeing all your wonderful creations.  There is still time to submit your projects and maybe you can win some blog candy.  Click here for that.

National Craft Month (Day 25)

Hello reader!  A few days ago, I was purging my scrap paper from the brown drawer (9 drawers to go!) of my paper station.  I took my EK Success punch and started punching scrap paper.  After a while, I noticed that somehow they look like layered chocolate when piled at a certain number.  So I decided to play and make me a box of paper chocolate thins:

Because of the shape, I tied the pieces together with ribbon.  After that, I put them in an acetate box which I made too.  Don't they look yummy?

Here's the box with a matching cover:

Materials used:

cardstock/dp:  Wassau, acetate, leftovers
tools:  Spellbinders, punches (EK Success, Stampin' Up)
embellishments:  flowers (Prima, Recollections), brads, rhinestone stickers (Mark Richards)

You can see more pics of this project by clicking here.

We have less than a week before we draw the winners for our National Craft Month blog candies.  There's still time to share us your projects this month.

National Craft Month (Day 23)

Hello everyone!  My project for today is what I call a "Twisted Jewelry Box."  Before I go on, I want to make it clear that this is not my original design.  If you have been to Japan, you might have seen something like this.  I often buy them to give as presents to friends and family because I find them really unique.  I never really knew what it's really called, and I just call it a "Twisted Jewelry Box."

Here's my take on it:

I only used the following materials for this project:
  • chipboard
  • fabric
  • sewing maching for hemming
  • Fabri-Tac adhesive
  • felt
It sure was a challenge to make the "Twisted Jewelry Box", but I'll try to find an easier way to do it.  I'm sure there is one.  You can see more photos of this project by clicking here.

We have exactly 7 more days to show your National Craft Month projects.  The link is here.

National Craft Month (Day 22)

Hello dear reader!  This is my project for today:

I'm sure you've seen them pierced through ribbons of handmade cards.  I decided to make a few today.  They are actually corsage pins I bought on sale in Walmart for $1.50 per box of 90.  The length of the pin itself is slightly less than 2 inches, a lot longer than basting pins you see in the sewing section of your local craft store.

They are really easy to make, as you just add the beads of your choice.  In this case, I put spacers and jewelry findings as well.  See the clear thingy in the bottom?  They are rubber earring backs by Darice.  When I pierce my bow, it will serve as a stopper and cover for the sharp end as well.

Join us for another week of crafting fun this National Craft Month.  The details are all in here.

National Craft Month (Day 21)

Hi crafty friends!  Three weeks of fun crafting has passed in celebration of National Craft Month... woot!  Thanks a big bunch to all of you who are creating with me this March.  And to those who just happened to pass by, there are still 9 days to create and celebrate National Craft Month.  And who knows, you might win some blog candy.  Interested?  Click here.

My project for today is a quick card.  I was feeling green, so I thought of using scrap paper.  What I did was adhered strips of leftover dp on copy paper, then run it through the Big Shot machine with my die of choice.  I tried something new this time, and adhered the negative of my cut piece to the inside of my card.

Materials used:

cardstock/dp:  leftovers
sentiment:  Stampin' Up
ink:  Stampin' Up
tools:  Stampin' Up, Big Shot
adhesive:  Scotch, foam tape

National Craft Month (Day 20)

Hi everyone!  I wouldn't pass National Craft Month without a crochet project.  Here's a Chrysanthemum I made following instructions from the book 100 Flowers to Knit & Crochet by Lesley Stanfield.  And because I haven't crocheted for a while, I had to do several tries to finish this flower as expected.

I can use this flower to make a brooch or accent for a bigger crochet project.

Hey crafters, we have a little over a week for National Craft Month.  There's still time to join in the fun.  Click here for more info.

National Craft Month (Day 19)

Hi crafty friends!  Today is my late father's birthday.  And even though the members of my family are all far apart, we celebrate this day.

I altered this wooden box to serve as a keepsake box where I can keep mementos of my Daddy.  DH took this home for me quite some time ago.  He knew I can do something with it.  He was right.

I painted the box inside and out with Deco Art Metallic Paint in Copper.  Because the cover had some printing on it, I painted it with black acrylic paint first before painting with copper metallic paint.  After that, I inked the edges with black ink and stipple brushed with ColorBox Chalk Ink in Charcoal.  And then I embossed images on the cover with a stencil by The Crafters Workshop.  The word CHERISH and the images around the box were done with foam stamps and black acrylic ink.  When I was satisfied, I sprayed the box with a clear acrylic sealer.

Inside the box, I just adhered black cardstock on the bottom part.  Then opposite the cover, I attached a fabric frame by EK Success, where I'll put a pic of my Dad.  As I put stuff inside the box, I'll probably be adding more accents and embellishments.  But for now, I'm satisfied.

We have 10 days to go with our National Craft Month celebration.  Hope you can join the fun and maybe win some blog candy.  Click here if you want to know more.

National Craft Month (Day18)

Hello everyone! I had to do some grocery shopping today, thus my late posting. While walking through the clearance aisle in Walmart, I saw the Deluxe Spray Art Dual Airbrush Studio for $9.  It comes with a battery operated air brush pen with 6 markers.  I thought that maybe it's worth a shot.  So when I got home, I played with it right away.  I knew I was late posting my project for today, so I made a bookmark.

First, I embossed my image with black embossing powder.  After coloring the flowers, I started spraying.  I also sprayed with Shimmer Spritz for final touches.

Materials used:

image:  Great Impressions
ink:  Cra-Z-Art markers, Stampin' Up, Spica glitter pen, Tsukineko
tools:  Cra-Z-Art Airbrush Pen, heat gun

National Craft Month (Day 16)

Hi reader!  I was looking through my stuff in my planet today, and I came across some match box kits burried in my paper pile.  There were also a variety of perforated tags.  So I put together a match box, and put all the tags inside.  I also embellished the match box a bit with some leftover ribbon and edge-punched paper strips.

It's a quick project, and can be handy as a last-minute gift.

National Craft Month (Day 15)

Hello fellow crafter!  Today's project involves beads.  And just like last year, my latest bead work reminded me of how tedious beading is... at least for me.  It took me about 4 hours to complete this project.  Come to think of it, I only do bead work during National Craft Month.

I used tubular stitch for this bracelet.  And for a final touch, I attached a beaded flower.

National Craft Month (Day 14)

Hello dear reader!  Two weeks have passed since we started our National Craft Month celebration.  Again, thank you to all of you who joined us in creating this month.  Your projects are inspiring and I enjoy seeing them.  Forgive me if I haven't left any comments on your blogs, but I definitely will during the course of our NCM celebration.

I decided to play with my Cricut and make something to put on the lockers of our Varsity Girls Basketball team.  They were District Champs four years in a row, and that's a big achievement.  The students, teachers, staff members and the local community are proud of them.

I put magnets in the back so they can place it on their lockers.  But the girls can also use this as a title for a scrapbook page about their districts basketball game.

Materials used:
cardstock/dp:  Embassy, The Paper Company
stamps:  Studio G, Autumn Leaves
ink:  Tsukineko, EK Success, Posca
tools:  Sports Mania cartridge, Cricut Expressions, Gypsy, heat gun
misc.:  embossing powder (American Crafts)
adhesive:  Scotch, Fiskars

Let's keep creating because we still have over two weeks of fun!  Link your projects here, and maybe you can win some fun blog candies at the end of the month.

Praying for Japan

I consider Japan as my home. I lived there for 5 years, learned many things, made many friends, and I can go back and reside there again if given a chance.

The latest events that are shaking Japan really affects me, and I keep thinking about my dear friends and former students, hoping they are all fine and safe. I have a student who is from Sendai, Shuji Eguchi, and I remember how he loved to talk about his hometown during classes. I pray that he and his family are okay.

But I know how Japan is as a country, and the Japanese people will all stand together to face this very difficult situation. They will rise once again from all the debris filled with distraught, anguish, and sorrow. They will show the world that even though they are weeping, they are strong, determined and united.

In this light, I have decided to suspend my NCM celebration this weekend in support of the country that I love. This is my personal choice, as I monitor the events and try to get news about friends in Japan. I want them to know that even though I am not physically there, I am with them, thinking of them, and praying for them.

Please feel free to post your projects as usual.
