National Craft Month (Day 22)

Hello dear reader!  This is my project for today:

I'm sure you've seen them pierced through ribbons of handmade cards.  I decided to make a few today.  They are actually corsage pins I bought on sale in Walmart for $1.50 per box of 90.  The length of the pin itself is slightly less than 2 inches, a lot longer than basting pins you see in the sewing section of your local craft store.

They are really easy to make, as you just add the beads of your choice.  In this case, I put spacers and jewelry findings as well.  See the clear thingy in the bottom?  They are rubber earring backs by Darice.  When I pierce my bow, it will serve as a stopper and cover for the sharp end as well.

Join us for another week of crafting fun this National Craft Month.  The details are all in here.

National Craft Month (Day 15)

Hello fellow crafter!  Today's project involves beads.  And just like last year, my latest bead work reminded me of how tedious beading is... at least for me.  It took me about 4 hours to complete this project.  Come to think of it, I only do bead work during National Craft Month.

I used tubular stitch for this bracelet.  And for a final touch, I attached a beaded flower.

Something Different

Something Different It's been really hot lately in Northern Michigan.  It reminded me of the sizzling hot summer days back in the Philippines.  And for the first time in my 2 years of being a Michigander, I complained about the weather.

I was irritated I got too lazy.  I wanted to create something, but I didn't want to do any scrapbooking or card making, crochet or cross stitch.  I wanted something different to take my mind off the heat.

So I decided to make some bead projects.

Every now and then, I would buy beading magazines, not just for myself but also for my sister.  She's actually the one who loves to bead.  In Bead and Button magazine, there was a pattern for bead balls called Blooming Beaded Beads.  That's different.  So I decided to give it a shot.

At first, I was just trying to follow the illustration and I was ending up nowhere.  I looked at the clock and almost 2 hours have passed and I still haven't finished a darn ball.  My back was aching and I was getting more irritated.  It made me remember why I wasn't so fond of beading in the first place.

After taking a breather, I realized that I really should read the instructions, step by step.  Only then did my bead ball started to look like a ball.  After my first ball, I decided to make more.  When I was almost done, I wanted to put something inside before I closed it up.  I couldn't find one, so I tried putting in the first ball.  It worked perfectly.

The next day, I wanted to make more.  So I made another ball.  It was easier the third time, and faster.  And so I decided to make another one, this time experimenting with a different kind of bead.  Halfway through, I thought it could work as a mushroom or something.  And using the Herringbone Tubular stitch, I made the stem.  Now looking at the photos, I'm trying to decide if it's a mushroom or a tree.  Haha!

That concluded my short beading frenzy.

National Craft Month DAY 25

I was inspired by Paulyn's bead creations this month.  She makes really nice bead accessories.  It's been a long while since I last made bead accessories.  If I'm not mistaken, it was with my sister and cousins back in the Philippines almost a year ago.  That was fun!

So tonight, I took out one of my beading magazines, and decided to make a bead pendant.  This style is called a "Spiky Tubular Peyote."  The spikes are supposed to go all around the beaded tube, but I just don't have the time tonight, so I just put 3 rounds of spikes in the bottom.  While creating this pendant, I remember why I'm not so much into beading... LOL!  I'm sure when my sister sees this, she will just laugh at me.  She's really good at making beads accessories (miss you sis!).  But I'm happy with this one - something different for my celebration of National Craft Month :)

The pendant kinda reminds me of blackberries, only it's purple.
