Graduation quick card number 2 is a lot easier.  But I tried to make it look complicated by using slanted lines.  I used the graduate's school colors to match the occasion.  For quick card like this, alpha stickers are really handy.

See the punched cardstock on top?  That's a pocket to slide in the monetary gift.

Congrats 1

Another batch of high school graduates marched this year.  It's actually one of my favorite parts of the school year.  When I was working at the high school, I kept reminding the seniors to cherish every moment of their graduation (and be in their best behavior).  It only happens once, marking the transition of the carefree days of youth to living the real world.  I haven't forgotten about my high school graduation day.  And yes, if I could turn back time, there are some things I would like to alter to make it better.

So this year, we were invited to two graduation parties.  One of my great excuses to step in my planet and make some cards.  Yeah I know.  If my craft room can talk, they will totally ban me from entering due to abandonment.  

Anyway, for graduation quick card number one, I took out a corrugated blank card, topped it with a die cut, topped with alpha stickers.

Then for the inside, using the same cardstock, I punched the top and used it as a small pocket for the monetary gift.  I also stamped and embossed a sentiment over it.  I used stickers for the name.

This card only took 30 minutes tops to make.  It really helps with you have tools handy to use to make a decent card.

Mom Birthday Card

I was able to steal time to make a quick birthday card for DMIL.  While going through my stash, I can't believe I've had this yellow flower for at least 8 years.  I need to keep using them!  See the inked inverted scalloped circle?  That's leftover from a project I made with Brooklyn last week (click here to see).  The embossed stamp is by Technique Tuesday.

You can see here the vellum gave after embossing.  Normally, I'd keep trying to make a perfect embossing, but not for this one.  I actually like the effect it gave the card.

As for the matching envie, I just applied some rub-ons then inked over it.  Yes... rub-ons.  I also have a lot of them in my stash.  I should use them more too.

One Saturday

I can't even remember the last time I babysat for friends' kids. Guess what? I got to do it last weekend. First thing that came to mind - craft time!  And craft time is play time.  At least for me.

Well, the girl I babysat likes crafts too.  Perfect!

She is pretty familiar with my planet, and every time she's there, she knows what she wants to do, what materials to use, and how to mix the colors together.  

So last Saturday, she wanted to make a wall decor for her bedroom. I showed her different kits, but as soon as she saw the Flower Garden Pack by Colorbok, she knew what to do.  But first, she had to see all her choices.

After a little bit of planning on the layout, she was able to layer her elements, and was able to put together her wall decor.  I just helped her with tools, and showed her the effects of inking the edges.  She sure liked that!

I learned something from this experience.  Not to think too much when I have a crafting project.  Brooke did the exact same thing, and she did a really awesome job.

Three Js

I guess there has been a new trend lately about "coloring books" for adults.  Nice. Before I even realized this fun trend, I had gotten this postcard book - apparently part of the coloring book series by Johanna Basford, from a quick visit at Joann's.  Hey, a book by Johanna bought by Joan at Joann's.  How cool is that?!?!  

Mind you, I bought this book because the illustrations/drawings/art work are really beautiful.  I'm so glad I did!  

After some research, I learned that there has been quite a good number of adult coloring books floating around.  Amazon has tons of them.  But it seems Secret Garden, Wonderlands and Enchanted Forest  by Johanna Basford are quite popular. In fact, when I checked them at Amazon, they're all sold out.

Going back to my copy of the Secret Garden Postcard Book, I plan on using different media in coloring each page.  Of course, I'm going to have to start with Copics.  

The struggle is with the paper/cardstock.  It doesn't go well with alcohol ink as it easily bleeds across the lines.  You have to be really careful to avoid that.  Then for final touches, I spiced the owl image with Spica glitter pens.

I have to give it to the creators of the adult coloring books - it is relaxing!  I really had a good time coloring the first page.  Can't wait to start the next!

On another note, I didn't forget about National Craft Month.  I used to celebrate it with much galore... and I sure miss that crafty tradition.  For the last couple of years, I still find time to celebrate it in my own little planet.  In fact, I have a couple of projects to share before NCM ends.
